Understanding The Primary Types of Shingles
3-Tab Shingles
3-Tab shingles are flat, lightweight, and uniform in appearance. They are entry level shingles and typically considered an economy-grade shingle. We typically do not recommend 3-tab shingles.
Architectural Shingles
Also known as dimensional or laminated shingles. Asphalt shingles are cut and laminated together to create a multi-layered and varied look as well as create a heavier, stronger shingle.
Designer Shingles
Also known as luxury, premium, or even high-definition shingles. Similar to architectural shingles, but sometimes designed to mimic shake or slate style roofs.
3-Tab Shingles

Owens Corning’s Supreme® 3-tab shingles provide dependable performance in an affordable, no-frills package. Built on a fiberglass foundation, they offer solid resistance to fire and winds up to 60 mph, making them an entry-level option for basic residential roofing. With clean, consistent granule coverage and algae-resistant technology, Supreme® delivers lasting curb appeal in a range of classic colors.

These are Duration shingles with special designer color blends (e.g. coastal blues, deep greens, etc.). Same specs as regular Duration; primarily an aesthetic sub-line.
Duration FLEX combines the SureNail technology with SBS asphalt, targeting customers in hail regions who want an architectural look.
Another impact-rated Duration variant, but instead of SBS, it uses an integrated polymer weave (Owens Corning’s patented WeatherGuard® Technology).
